I am a police officer on an emergency response team…

I am a police officer on an emergency response team, and occasionally come into contact with people with autism, often when they are in crisis.

I enrolled in the course with a desire to understand autism to better help people with autism when I come into contact with them professionally. And how I need to adapt my interviews whether for a victim, witness or suspect.

I have adapted my approach based on what I have learned…

I have identified an older adult I work with who I suspected may have an undiagnosed ASC whom I referred to occupational health. He has subsequently been assessed and waiting for a diagnosis, but reasonable adjustments have already been put in place.

Additionally, I have attended an emergency incident involving a person with autism and adapted my approach based on what I have learned.

I believe it helped me to build a rapport and obtain a better witness statement from them. It also enabled me to know what ‘special measures’ to ask the court to put in place to make the courtroom experience easier for that person.

This was extremely helpful and may have a genuinely positive impact on this person’s life.

I would absolutely recommend this course.

I would absolutely recommend this course. All round better knowledge and support.

I’ve already recommended to a parent of a child I came into contact with professionally.
