Digital Marketer

This level 3 apprenticeship will help you build your skills in Digital Marketing.

In this role, you’ll work as part of a team to define, design, build and implement digital campaigns across a variety of online and social media platforms to drive customer acquisition, customer engagement and customer retention. 

For this qualification, you’ll learn about the principles of coding, basic marketing principles, and digital and social media strategies. You will also learn how to understand customers, including the customer lifecycle and the role of customer relationship marketing. 

The course also covers specialist areas including search marketing, search engine optimisation, web analytics and mobile apps. 

The qualification will help you gain the skills you need to work in a variety of roles, such as Digital Marketing Executive, Content Co-ordintor, Analytics Executive and Digital Marketing Technologist.

Course Content


Understands the principles of coding; understands and can apply basic marketing principles; understands and can apply the customer lifecycle; understands the role of customer relationship marketing; understands how teams work effectively to deliver digital marketing campaigns and can deliver accordingly; understands the main components of digital and social media strategies; understands the principles of all of the following specialist areas: search marketing, search engine optimisation, email marketing, web analytics and metrics, mobile apps and Pay-Per-Click, and understands how these can work together.


Logical and creative thinking skills; analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and to take responsibility; can use own initiative; a thorough and organised approach; ability to work with a range of internal and external people; ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations; ability to maintain a productive, professional and secure working environment.


Written communication: applies a good level of written communication skills for a range of audiences and digital platforms and with regard to the sensitivity of communication; research: analyses and contributes information on the digital environment to inform short and long-term digital communications strategies and campaigns; technologies: recommends and applies effective, secure and appropriate solutions using a wide variety of digital technologies and tools over a range of platforms and user interfaces to achieve marketing objectives; data: reviews, monitors and analyses online activity and provides recommendations and insights to others.

Those with an annual wage bill of less than £3m do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy. Instead, 95% of each apprenticeship is funded by the government whilst a 5% investment is required by the employer to enhance the skills of their employee.

  • Employers are also be eligible for a £1000 incentive payment if the apprentice is aged 16 – 18.
  • Employers with less than 50 employees and where the apprentice is aged 16 – 18, the government will fund 100% of the apprentice and are eligible for a £1000 incentive payment.
  • Employers with those aged 19+ the government will continue to fund 95% of the apprenticeship programme whilst a 5% investment is required by the employer.
  • Businesses can manage this through the Apprenticeship Service online account.
