Unified Communications Technician

As a unified communications technician, you will establish and maintain communications systems using a range of remote and physical tools and equipment, and install basic communication hardware and software.

You’ll deal with routine service requests from internal and external sources, including fault rectification across a range of technologies, and applying security principals in line with legal and organisational requirements. 

Over the course of this level 3 apprenticeship, you will build your skills in analysing system problems and selecting appropriate solutions, using appropriate diagnostic tools to monitor, test and react to network performance. You’ll also develop your ability to work effectively with customers to provide technical support. 

You’ll gain the skills you need to excel as a Telecommunications Technician, Unified Communications Technician or Telecommunications Operative.

Course Content

Knowledge

Unified communication technician apprentices use a range of tools and equipment to install basic communication hardware and software. They also deal with routine service requests, including fault rectification across a range of technologies, and applying security principals in line with legal and organisational needs. They will develop knowledge of networks, cloud services, diagnostic and testing tools and cabling, and will be able to provide technical support to customers.

Skills

Note down the outcomes of tests and keep accurate test records and reports; compare test results against expected results and acceptance criteria and through traceability to requirement.

Those with an annual wage bill of less than £3m do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy. Instead, 95% of each apprenticeship is funded by the government whilst a 5% investment is required by the employer to enhance the skills of their employee.

  • Employers are also be eligible for a £1000 incentive payment if the apprentice is aged 16 – 18.
  • Employers with less than 50 employees and where the apprentice is aged 16 – 18, the government will fund 100% of the apprentice and are eligible for a £1000 incentive payment.
  • Employers with those aged 19+ the government will continue to fund 95% of the apprenticeship programme whilst a 5% investment is required by the employer.
  • Businesses can manage this through the Apprenticeship Service online account.
